The Travelling sketchbook was delivered last week. It is a joy to see all the contributions 'in the flesh.' The different styles and mediums from the talented illustrators are inspiring. I'll try my level best not to lower the standard:¬)

Ben's enclosed CD: 'Soundtrack Of My Life' was an impressive inclusion in the package featuring excellent graphics and tracks reflected in the title.

Well, it's finally done! My addition to The Travelling Sketchbook is complete, and without blowing my own trumpet, I'm very happy with it! I have taken my inspiration for my image, from my up coming trip to Europe in September, where I shall be following The Tragically Hip on their tour!

So, here it is in all it's glory...

The text reads:

"Kill the dream of impossible vacations
with the sweep of a mapping pioneer
outside there's hectic action
the ice is covering the trees
and one of em's interconnecting
with my chevrolet caprice"

Which is an extract from the Hip song, Something On.

I hope you out there in blogland like it! Now we just have to wait and see where the little sketchbook will be heading next on it's exciting journey!

I finally managed to pick up my parcel from the Post Office, and, as you've probably guessed, it contained the Travelling Sketchbook, and assorted other goodies (and by that I mean presents - Not that the parcel contained Bill Oddie or Tim Brooke-Taylor)...

I'd better get my thinking cap on...

Adventure on Adventure Island!

"Crikey!" said Terry as he opened the curtains in the gang's room, allowing the light to stream in, "What a splendid morning! I say, chaps, what shall we do today?"
The sunlight had woken the others, who were now rubbing sleep from their eyes and throwing off sheets. Their parents were stationed in Malaya and were unable to make it back home for the hols, but they had arranged for the four children (and Bob) to go and stay with Mrs. Fairfax, an old family friend who had moved to Adventure Island to run a bed and breakfast.
"I say we go exploring!" piped up Ted as he came to join Terry by the window.
"What a smashing idea," said Jerry, "Mrs. Fairfax said the beach at Deadman's Bay has some super rock pools. We could look for crabs. Or build sand castles."
"Or," said Terry, "we could ask Mrs. Fairfax to pack us a picnic and we could hike over to Devil's Cave and see if that old legend is true."
"I don't know that I like the sound of that!" exclaimed Bunty, who was getting Bob out of his cage.
"But it'll be an adventure," insisted Terry, "and you know what jolly good fun an adventure can be."
Bunty gripped Bob firmly to her chest, "It might be dangerous."
"Nonsense," said Terry, who always liked to have the last word, "The only danger to people on Adventure Island is that they might die of boredom. What could possibly happen to us here?"

This morning the postie knocked on my door, bearing a package from Alli containing the famous travelling sketchbook. He was terribly impressed with the envelope,
"That's a fantastic piece of artwork that," he said.
And indeed it was!
Inside were lots of lovely gifts, including the latest copy of the popular motoring magazine, Varoom :-)

At last!, I have finished my sketchbook page. It is based on dreams and where you travel in your mind. The text reads:

'...in my dreams I travel to far and distant lands...'

It's the first time I have used inks to paint with so it was all good fun! I wonder who it will fly to next?

Hurrah, hurrah! I have received the Travelling Sketchbook. I was so excited when the postman handed it to me and overwhelmed at all the wonderful work hidden inside. I feel very special....

Thankyou Paula for the gorgeous scented pencil (yummy marshmallow!) and foaming bath confetti! :-)

The Two Explorers...

Ta da! I got there in the end! Here is my page of the Travelling Sketchbook! It's pencil and watercolour.
I wrote a little poem thing along with it:

"The two explorers travelled by trains, boats and planes,
to the land of the unknown.
And together they journeyed through the jungle,
In search of their way back home".

It's a sort of journey into the imagination!

Yippeeeeeeeeeeee! The Famous Travelling Sketchbook was delivered this morning by my very Jolly Postman! I feel so excited and so happy to be a part of this. Each page inside is beautiful! I feel like the sketchbook is alive somehow, like each time something new is added it gains more character and, well, a soul, somehow!
Thankyou Julia! I'm going to have such fun playing with the glitter glue pens and stickers! Hoozah!

The little bundle of joy has turned up at mine and it's absolutely fantastic...even the Postie looked excited! After toying with the idea of running away with it and settling down on a deserted island with only coconuts for company (or a basketball for the lucky one's) I duly took some photographs for your pleasure...Many thanks to Fiona for the lovely gifts; I didnt want to disturb the gorgeous black and orange wrapping but quickly changed my mind when I reminded myself there was something new and interesting inside for me...I'll post again soon with my artwork...Maxi xx

I was delighted to be the next recipient of the Travelling Sketchbook two weeks ago! It arrived on a Saturday morning and for once the Postman didn't have to see me in my dressing gown... I was actually up and about (shock horror!). It was most exciting to see everyones work.

Thanks to Lynda for the lovely note book! Just the right size to pop in my handbag.

After procrastinating, dithering, delaying and generally slacking I finally knuckled down and did some drawing. So here's my entry. I'm in a Pirate mood I think ;0)

This was done digitally, because I would have taken even longer to finish my pages if I'd had to paint it in the traditional manner.

Mama Gingie's adventures

I got this lovely hand illustrated package in the post this morning.

It's great to see the illustrations so far. I can't wait to make a start on mine. I'm off to Cyprus tonight so I have 2 weeks to sketch some ideas.

A hundred years ago, I took delivery of this friendly dog-guarded parcel...an instantly recognisable drawing style, for anyone familiar with the jaunty line of Ms Emma McCann.

Inside were the fabled Travelling sketchbook, still with a faint tan from its Greek birthplace and a little present in the Grand Tradition; a 3D drawing set; (thank you, Emma!) watch yourselves Pixar, here I come.

The innner sleeve contained - a little paper boat, a sheet of gorgeous Greek stamps, and some spare pages for experiments, which I wish I'd used properly; I have the dubious honour of being the first person to commit open-page surgery on the TSB.

Being first and foremost a painter, I started laying down washes on the Moleskine pages. Bad. Wrong. I don't know why they say it's for watercolour, as it has all the holding properties of a greaseproof pasty wrapper. So I carefully sliced the wrinkled mess out and did my piece again, this time on stretched watercolour paper, to be glued in carefuly. It's the first 'from my head' art I've done for half a year, being tied up with nice, safe, money-earning jobs. It's a bit strange...

Sir Bernard Dashley-Holmes and the Great Indian Safari of 1926.

The text reads:

8th June 1926
Dashed hot again today and still no sign of the blasted tigers.
I'm beginning to think Melrose has no damn idea where the
bally things are, and he's leading us all on a wild goose chase.
Mmm...goose. What I wouldn't give for Gilly's traditional,
British roast goose. With extra potatoes.

All these funny "curries" and what-not the locals serve up
around here. They play havoc with my downstairs department.
Took me forty minutes to get out of the WC this morning.
Terrible.

Melrose says we are making too much noise and are
scaring away the wretched tigers, forcing them deeper
into the jungle. He's reluctant to go any further in
– too many wild creatures about – but dash it all!
Wild creatures are what I've come all the way out
here and paid a damn fortune for! I'm making him
take us further in tomorrow if it's the last thing I do!

"My First Journey" The text reads: I set out on my first journey at the age of six.
It happened whilst I was sleeping.
A year before I had planted a tree near the ocean.
It grew, but instead of fruit it bore paper boats. I wasn't surprised but I kept it a secret.
Whilst asleep that night I took one of the boats and sailed to the middle of the bay.
The stars fell one by one into the water and talked and played with me until dawn.
